Emsella in Newport Beach: Pelvic Floor Strength, Bladder Control & What to Expect

A little leak when you laugh, sneeze, or jump. Planning your day around where the restrooms are. Feeling like your core just isn’t what it was after having kids or as menopause approaches. These changes are far more common than most women are told, and they’re often hard to bring up, even with a doctor.

At Beyond Restore, we offer Emsella in Newport Beach as a non-surgical way to strengthen the pelvic floor, with no needles, no undressing, and no downtime. In this guide, we explain what Emsella is, what it can help with, how it works, who is and isn’t a good candidate, what each session feels like, how many you’ll need, and how it fits with our hormone and sexual wellness care, so you can walk into your consultation already knowing what to expect.

What Is Emsella?

Emsella is a non-invasive pelvic floor treatment made by BTL. It uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to activate the deep muscles that support your bladder and core. Emsella is FDA-cleared for the treatment of urinary incontinence. That clearance covers both women and men.

You sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed for a 28-minute session. According to the manufacturer, each session produces the equivalent of more than 11,000 supramaximal pelvic floor contractions, which are stronger contractions than you can create on your own with Kegel exercises.

What Can Emsella Help With?

Women most often come to us about:

  • Stress incontinence, meaning leaks when you cough, laugh, sneeze, or exercise
  • Urge incontinence and frequent urination
  • Pelvic floor weakness after childbirth or with menopause
  • Postpartum or age-related changes in pelvic support and core control
  • A general feeling of being disconnected from your core

Some women also come to us about intimacy, such as reduced sensation, vaginal laxity, or changes in arousal or orgasm. Improved pelvic floor tone and circulation may help with these concerns, and many women report a difference. To be clear, though, these uses are off-label, meaning they’re outside Emsella’s FDA clearance, and results vary from person to person. We’ll talk honestly about what’s realistic for you.

How Emsella Works

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles that works like a hammock under your bladder, uterus, and bowel. When those muscles weaken, from pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal shifts, or simply time, control and support can slip.

Emsella sends focused electromagnetic pulses through the seat of the chair to trigger strong, involuntary contractions across the entire pelvic floor, including muscles many women struggle to engage with Kegels. Over a series of sessions, those contractions help re-educate and strengthen the muscles, which can lead to better bladder control and a stronger pelvic foundation.

Think of it as a focused workout for muscles that are very hard to train on your own, without needles, surgery, or recovery time.

Is Emsella Right for You?

Emsella is appropriate for most healthy adults, women and men. It’s often a good fit if you:

  • Are dealing with bladder leaks, urgency, or pelvic pressure
  • Want to rebuild pelvic tone after having a baby
  • Are noticing pelvic changes during perimenopause or menopause
  • Want a non-surgical option before considering anything more involved
  • Are already doing BHRT, PRP, or pelvic floor physical therapy and want added support

Who May Not Be a Candidate

Emsella may not be recommended if you:

  • Are pregnant or could be pregnant
  • Have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device
  • Have metal implants in or near the pelvic area

We review your full health history at your consultation. If you’ve recently had a baby, we’ll make sure you’ve been cleared by your OB or provider before starting. And if your symptoms are new, sudden, painful, or come with blood in your urine or signs of an infection, those deserve a medical evaluation first, so we’ll make sure you get it before treatment.

What to Expect: Before, During & After

Before

Everything starts with a private consultation. We talk about your symptoms, your pregnancy and health history, your hormones, and your goals, and we explain how Emsella works and whether it fits. We know these conversations can feel personal, so we keep them relaxed, respectful, and judgment-free.

During

  • You sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed
  • Each session lasts 28 minutes
  • You’ll feel tapping, tingling, or fluttering as your pelvic floor muscles contract
  • Most women describe it as unusual but comfortable, and the intensity is adjusted to your comfort

After

  • You can go right back to work, exercise, or your plans
  • Some women feel mild muscle fatigue or soreness in the pelvic area, similar to after a workout, which usually fades quickly
  • There’s no downtime or recovery period

If anything feels uncomfortable during or after a session, tell us so we can adjust your treatment.

How Many Sessions Will You Need?

A typical Emsella protocol is 6 sessions over 3 weeks. Many women begin noticing better bladder control after 2 to 3 sessions, though everyone responds differently.

To keep your results going, most women return for maintenance sessions every 3 to 6 months, depending on lifestyle, hormones, and how their muscles respond. We’ll build a schedule with you at your consultation.

Emsella vs. Kegels and Pelvic Floor Therapy

Kegels and pelvic floor physical therapy are valuable, and we don’t see Emsella as a replacement for either. Emsella can be used on its own or as a boost alongside them. The difference is intensity: Emsella triggers stronger contractions than most women can produce voluntarily, and it reaches muscles that are hard to isolate on your own.

Pairing Emsella With Hormone and Sexual Wellness Care

Pelvic health is often tied to hormones, which is why we look at the whole picture. At Beyond Restore, Emsella is often part of a personalized women’s wellness plan that may include:

For postpartum core concerns, some women also pair Emsella with EmSculpt NEO for the abdomen. Our EmSculpt NEO guide explains how that treatment works. Every plan is built around your anatomy, hormones, and goals, not a template.

How Much Does Emsella Cost in Newport Beach?

Your cost depends on how many sessions your plan includes and whether Emsella is combined with other treatments. We’ll walk you through exactly what’s included and what it costs before you decide anything.

We also offer financing through PatientFi, CareCredit, and Cherry to help fit your care into your budget.

Most women don’t find it painful. You’ll feel tapping, tingling, or fluttering as your muscles contract, and the intensity is adjusted to your comfort. Some women feel mild muscle fatigue afterward, similar to after a workout.

Do I have to undress?

No. You stay fully clothed for the entire 28-minute session.

Is there downtime after Emsella?

No. You can go back to work, exercise, or your plans right away.

Many women notice better bladder control after 2 to 3 sessions. Results vary, and a full protocol is typically 6 sessions over 3 weeks.
