Testosterone and Men's Hormones
Testosterone levels tend to drift lower with age, and some men have levels that are low enough to discuss treatment. Low testosterone is diagnosed with blood tests together with symptoms, not by symptoms alone.
Testosterone therapy is a prescription with its own monitoring needs, so it isn’t something to start without a medical review. Results vary from person to person, and no result can be promised.

Why Men Ask About Testosterone
Men often book a consultation after noticing changes like these:
- Feeling tired more often
- Less interest in sex
- Losing muscle or gaining weight around the middle
- Changes in mood or motivation
Each of these has many possible causes. Labs and a health review help sort out whether hormones play a part.
Labs and Methods for Men
Labs
Baseline labs come first, before any prescription. Testosterone is usually checked along with other markers your prescriber picks, such as blood count and PSA.
Methods
For men, we offer pellets, injections and creams. Injections can be done at our office or at home, and we can give or teach your first injection in the office. Testosterone pellets are inserted by Dr. Berkey or our NP under lidocaine. You can return to normal activity afterward, and they usually last about 3 to 4 months.
How We Approach Testosterone Therapy
Labs Before a Prescription
We don’t prescribe testosterone on symptoms alone. Your labs and health history come first.
Screening Along the Way
Testosterone can affect blood count, PSA and other markers, so we check them during your plan.
Other Services to Ask About
Men sometimes combine hormone therapy with medical weight loss or Emsella. Ask about peptide therapy and IV vitamin drips as well.
Paying for Treatment
Financing is available through PatientFi, CareCredit and Cherry. Consultations are free.
What to Expect With Hormone Therapy for Men
Here’s what the steps look like for men.
Before
Start with a free consultation. We ask about your symptoms, medications, any past hormone use and whether you plan to have children.
During
You begin the method in your plan, with instructions for doses and timing.
Aftercare
Expect repeat labs about 2 months after starting, in case your dose needs adjusting, then labs and a check-in every 6 months. Many follow-ups and refills can be done by telehealth. Report any new symptoms between visits.
Results for Men
Any changes usually come on gradually, and every man’s experience is different. The goal is a dose that keeps your labs in range while you feel well, and that can take a few adjustments. Results vary from person to person, and no result can be promised.
Is Testosterone Therapy Right for You?
Testosterone therapy may be worth discussing if your symptoms and labs both point to low levels. It isn’t right for every man. It is not a good fit if you have prostate or breast cancer, untreated sleep apnea or a high red blood cell count. If you’re planning to have children, we’ll have a fertility conversation first.
We’ll go over your prostate, heart, liver and kidney history and any sleep issues at your free consultation.
Hormone Therapy for Men FAQs
Is this the same as TRT?
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is the general term for prescribing testosterone. A bioidentical plan is a form of it: the testosterone has the same structure as the testosterone the body makes. The monitoring is the same either way.
What does long-term monitoring involve?
Men on testosterone need regular checks. Expect repeat labs about 2 months after starting, in case your dose needs adjusting, then labs and a check-in every 6 months. Side effects vary by method, and we review them with you before your first dose.
Which testosterone methods do you offer?
For men, we offer pellets, injections and creams. Injections can be done at our office or at home, and we can give or teach your first injection in the office.
How soon will I notice a change?
Any changes usually come on gradually, and every man’s experience is different. Results vary from person to person, and no result can be promised.
