What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused laser energy to heat the hair follicle, which slows regrowth and, in some cases, stops it. The goal is long-term hair reduction, not an overnight change, which is why it’s done as a series of sessions.
We use Diolaze, a diode laser from InMode. Its built-in cooling helps keep your skin comfortable while we treat larger areas quickly. Laser hair removal is a different treatment from IPL skin rejuvenation, which uses broad-spectrum light for sun spots and redness rather than hair.
What Areas Can Laser Hair Removal Treat?
We treat a wide range of areas on the face and body, including:
- Upper lip and chin
- Sideburns
- Neck and jawline
- Underarms
- Arms and hands
- Bikini line and Brazilian area
- Legs and feet
- Back and shoulders
- Chest and abdomen
Not sure where to start? We’ll help you prioritize areas at your consultation.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only works on follicles in the active growth phase. That’s why one session isn’t enough: each visit reaches the hairs that are in the right phase at that moment, and the rest are treated in later sessions.
During treatment, the Diolaze handpiece delivers pulses of light that are absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. That heat travels down to the follicle and damages its ability to regrow. Diolaze combines high peak power, wide coverage per pass and built-in cooling, so sessions move faster and feel more comfortable.
Benefits of Laser Hair Removal
Less Shaving, Less Razor Burn
As hair becomes finer and less frequent, you’ll shave less and deal with fewer red bumps.
Time Back in Your Week
Fewer shaving routines and fewer wax appointments add up over a year.
Fewer Ingrown Hairs
Finer, sparser hair generally means smoother skin and less irritation.
Confidence in What You Wear
A swimsuit, a tank top or a day at the beach is simpler when you aren’t planning around stubble.
Results That Build With Each Session
Hair tends to grow back slower, sparser and lighter as you move through your series. Individual results vary.
A Plan Matched to Your Skin and Hair
Because the laser targets pigment, we check your skin tone and hair color at your consultation and set the plan around them. Diolaze has built-in cooling and safeguards for the skin.
Laser Hair Removal Treatment Process: What to Expect
Before
It starts with a personalized consultation. We look at your skin type, hair color, medical history and the areas you want to treat, and build a plan around them. Before your appointment, avoid waxing, plucking and sun exposure, and shave the area 12 to 24 hours ahead. Please tell us about any medications you take and any recent tanning, because both can affect whether and when we treat.
During
Appointments typically take 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area. You’ll wear protective eyewear while we glide the Diolaze handpiece over the skin. Most people describe the feeling as a quick snap or light pinch, and the cooling tip means numbing cream usually isn’t needed. Treatments are performed by our RNs, NPs and MDs.
After
Most people go right back to their day. Mild redness or warmth in the treated area is common and usually settles within a few hours. For the next 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot showers, direct sun and intense workouts, and wear sunscreen on any treated area that sees the sun.
Every treatment has risks. Temporary swelling around the follicles can occur and, less commonly, laser treatment can cause blistering, burns or changes in skin color. That’s why we review your skin, medications and recent sun or tanning before we begin, and why we want to hear from you if anything looks or feels unusual afterward.
Results Timeline
Many people notice less hair after their first one or two treatments. For full results, plan on a series of 6 to 9 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, since each session only reaches the follicles that are actively growing. After your series, maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months can help keep results going.
Laser hair removal offers long-term hair reduction. Some fine or light regrowth can happen over time, and individual results vary based on hair color, skin tone and the area treated.
Is Laser Hair Removal Right for You?
Laser hair removal is a good fit for many adults who want to reduce unwanted hair. Because the laser targets pigment, it tends to work well on darker hair. Laser hair removal isn’t recommended for dark skin tones, and it may not be the right option if you have:
- A dark skin tone, because the laser targets pigment and the risk of skin color changes is higher
- Very light, gray or red hair, which has less pigment for the laser to target
- An active infection, rash or sunburn in the treatment area
- A current pregnancy (we avoid treatment as a precaution)
Between sessions, shaving is fine, but don’t wax or pluck, because the laser needs the hair root in place. Fall and winter are an easy time to start, since it’s simpler to avoid the sun before and after sessions.
The easiest way to find out if it fits is a free consultation. Want the full picture first? Read our laser hair removal guide. If your main concern is sun spots or redness, see IPL skin rejuvenation; for congestion or dull skin, a HydraFacial; for tone and texture, microneedling or chemical peels; and for skin tightening, Morpheus8.
Laser Hair Removal FAQs
How long does a laser hair removal appointment take?
Appointments typically take 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Small areas like the upper lip are on the shorter end, and larger areas like the legs or back take longer.
Can I go back to my normal routine after treatment?
Most people go right back to their day. Mild redness or warmth is common and usually settles within a few hours. For 24 to 48 hours, skip hot showers, direct sun and intense workouts.
How should I care for my skin after laser hair removal?
Wear sunscreen on any treated area that sees the sun, and keep up sun protection through your series. Between sessions you can shave, but don’t wax or pluck. If anything looks or feels unusual, let us know.
Which laser do you use?
We use InMode’s Diolaze, a diode laser with built-in cooling. It combines high peak power with wide coverage per pass, so larger areas can be treated quickly.
How is laser hair removal different from IPL?
Laser hair removal uses a diode laser aimed at the pigment in hair to reduce growth. IPL uses broad-spectrum light to treat sun spots, redness and uneven tone. If those are your concerns, see IPL skin rejuvenation.
Who performs laser hair removal at Beyond Restore?
Laser hair removal is performed by our RNs, NPs and MDs.
Can laser hair removal be done on dark skin tones?
