What Is Dysport?
Dysport is a prescription injectable made from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A (abobotulinumtoxinA). Like Botox and Jeuveau, it belongs to a group of treatments called neuromodulators. Injected in small, precise amounts, it temporarily relaxes the muscles that pull the brows together when you frown, so the lines between them look softer.
Dysport is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows (glabellar lines) in adults under 65. It’s a quick, in-office treatment with no surgery, and results are temporary, so treatments are repeated to maintain them.

Dysport softens lines caused by movement. It doesn’t replace lost volume or tighten loose skin; for volume, dermal fillers may fit better.
How Dysport Works
Dysport temporarily blocks the nerve signals that tell a targeted muscle to contract. With that muscle more relaxed, the skin over it creases less, and lines caused by repeated frowning look smoother.
- Your provider maps the muscles behind your lines and chooses the injection points.
- A measured dose goes into each point, so only the targeted muscles relax.
- Surrounding muscles keep working, so you can still smile, frown and squint, just with less creasing.
Dysport doses are measured in Dysport units, which aren’t interchangeable with Botox or Jeuveau units. The effect wears off gradually, usually over about 3 to 4 months.

What to Expect at Your Dysport Visit
Before Your Treatment
It starts with a free consultation. We review your goals, how your brows move, your medical history and medications, and map out an injection plan based on your anatomy. Tell us if you’ve had Botox, Jeuveau or another neuromodulator before, and when.
In the 24 hours before treatment, we typically ask you to avoid alcohol, intense workouts and NSAID pain relievers such as ibuprofen, and to pause prescribed blood thinners only if your prescribing clinician agrees it’s safe.
During Your Treatment
Your provider cleanses your skin, marks the injection points and uses a fine needle to place Dysport into the targeted muscles. The injections take about 10 to 20 minutes. You’ll feel a brief pinch at each point, and numbing is available on request.
After Your Treatment
Mild swelling, redness or tiny bumps at the injection points are common and usually fade within a few hours. After treatment:
- Stay upright for about 4 to 6 hours.
- Don’t rub or massage the treated area.
- Skip intense workouts for the rest of the day.
Most people go straight back to work or errands. We’ll give you aftercare instructions for the areas treated before you leave.
Possible Side Effects
Dysport is a prescription medicine, and like any injectable it has risks. Common, usually temporary effects include redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising at the injection points, headache, and cold-like symptoms such as a stuffy nose or sore throat. Less often, a nearby muscle can be affected, causing a temporary droopy eyelid or brow, puffy eyelids or uneven results.
Rarely, the effect of botulinum toxin can spread beyond the injection area hours to weeks after treatment. Get medical help right away if you have trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing, new muscle weakness, or vision problems after treatment, and call us with any other symptom that worries you.
Your provider will review your health history and these risks with you before treatment.

Can Dysport help keep lines from getting deeper?

Will I still be able to move my face?
