Breast Lift (Mastopexy) in Newport Beach

Surgical Breast Reshaping That Lifts and Repositions

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes and time can all change the shape and position of the breasts. A breast lift, known medically as mastopexy, removes excess skin and reshapes the breast tissue so the breasts sit higher on the chest. At Beyond Restore, breast lifts are performed by fellowship-trained surgeon Dr. Paris Sabo, MD.

What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes the breasts. Excess skin is removed, the remaining breast tissue is lifted and reshaped, and the nipple and areola are repositioned higher on the breast. A lift on its own reshapes the breasts rather than adding size. If you would also like more fullness, a breast lift can be combined with breast implants (augmentation-mastopexy) or with fat transfer.

Breast Lift Treatment Areas and Concerns

A breast lift is designed to address changes such as:
  • Breasts that sag or have lost their shape
  • Nipples and areolas that sit low or point downward
  • Stretched skin after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight changes
  • Breasts that differ in position or shape from one another

How It Works

1. Shape and Position Change

Over time, the skin that supports the breasts can stretch, and the breast tissue can settle lower on the chest.

2. Planning the Incisions

Dr. Sabo chooses an incision pattern based on how much lift is needed and on your anatomy.

3. Reshaping the Tissue

The breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to sit higher on the chest.

4. Repositioning the Nipple and Areola

The nipple and areola are moved to a higher position, and the areola can be reduced in size if needed.

5. Removing Excess Skin

Excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed.

Breast Lift Incision Options

  • Periareolar (around the areola): an incision around the edge of the areola.
  • Vertical (lollipop): an incision around the areola and straight down to the breast crease.
  • Anchor: an incision around the areola, down to the breast crease, and along the crease.
The right incision pattern depends on the individual and is decided at your consultation.

What to Expect Before, During, and After a Breast Lift

Before

At your free consultation, Dr. Sabo reviews your health history, examines your breasts, and talks through your goals, the incision options, and whether adding implants or fat transfer makes sense for you.

During

A breast lift is performed under local or general anesthesia and typically takes about 2 to 3 hours. There is no overnight stay.

After

Expect swelling, soreness and tightness at first. Many people take about one week of downtime and wait about 6 weeks before returning to exercise. You will receive aftercare instructions, and recovery varies from person to person.

Risks

As with any surgery, there are risks, including scarring, bleeding, infection, changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry, wound complications and anesthesia risks. Your individual risks are reviewed at your consultation.

Results Timeline

  • First week: downtime at home; swelling and soreness are expected.
  • About 6 weeks: a typical point for returning to exercise, once you are cleared.
  • Following months: swelling continues to settle and the breast shape becomes easier to see. Incision lines tend to fade over time. Individual results vary.

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

A breast lift may be worth considering if you have breasts that sag or have lost their shape, or nipples that sit low on the breast. Whether it is right for you, and which incision pattern fits, is decided at your free consultation after a qualified medical professional reviews your health history and goals.
