Ellacor® Micro-Coring in Newport Beach
FDA-Cleared Micro-Coring® for Mid- and Lower-Face Wrinkles
Looking for a non-surgical option that addresses moderate to severe wrinkles by removing tiny columns of skin—without heat from lasers or radiofrequency? At Beyond Restore Wellness & Aesthetics in Newport Beach, we offer education and consultations on Ellacor® with Micro-Coring® technology, an FDA-cleared approach designed for the mid and lower face.
Every skin journey is personal. A consultation helps us review your goals, medical history, and whether Ellacor—or another treatment in our menu—is the better fit.
What Is Ellacor?
Ellacor is a prescription aesthetic device that uses hollow needles to remove micro-cores of skin (fractional tissue extraction). Unlike treatments that rely on heat, Ellacor does not use laser, radiofrequency, or ultrasound energy to intentionally injure tissue with temperature.
After those micro-cores are removed, your body’s natural healing response works to close the treated sites. The treatment is designed to improve the appearance of moderate and severe wrinkles in appropriate candidates.
Important: Ellacor is FDA-cleared (510(k)), not “FDA-approved.” It is indicated for use by medical professionals for the treatment of moderate and severe wrinkles in the mid and lower face in adults aged 22 years or older with Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV. It is further indicated for fractional skin resurfacing.
What Can Ellacor Help Address?
When used according to its cleared indication, Ellacor focuses on:
- Moderate to severe wrinkles of the mid face (such as cheeks and smile lines)
- Moderate to severe wrinkles of the lower face (such as areas around the mouth, chin, and jowl region)
- Concerns that may benefit from fractional skin resurfacing, as determined with your provider
Ellacor is not a surgical facelift and is not intended for patients who need or expect surgical-level correction of severe laxity. Your provider will help set realistic expectations.

How Ellacor Works
Mechanical micro-coring—not heat remodeling
- Precise hollow needles penetrate the skin and excise tiny full-thickness columns of tissue.
- A vacuum-assisted handpiece helps stabilize the skin and clear the cored tissue.
- Treatment depth and the percentage of skin removed can be customized by your provider.
- No intentional thermal energy is used during the procedure.
- Healing continues over the following days and weeks as the skin recovers.
This mechanical approach is what sets Ellacor apart from many energy-based revitalization devices.

Who Is a Candidate?
You may be a candidate to discuss Ellacor if you:
- Are an adult 22 years of age or older
- Have Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV (the cleared population for the wrinkle indication)
- Are bothered by moderate to severe wrinkles in the mid and/or lower face
- Prefer a non-surgical option and understand that visible recovery time is expected
- Are able to follow pre- and post-care instructions closely
Who may not be a candidate
Ellacor is not appropriate for everyone. Labeling contraindicates treatment in many situations, including (but not limited to):
- Pregnancy or nursing
- Open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area
- Certain allergies (including stainless steel or medications/preparations that may be used during the procedure)
- Significant bleeding disorders
- Many active dermatologic or autoimmune conditions that could affect healing or outcomes
- Recent facial surgery, fillers, fat grafting, or botulinum toxin in the treatment area within labeled time windows
- Treatment within the bony orbital rim, on mucous membranes, or over areas with silicone/synthetic implants
Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI are outside the cleared clinical population for the wrinkle indication; manufacturer guidance notes that separate study is needed for darker skin types. We will review your skin type and history carefully before recommending any plan.

What to Expect at Your Visit
Before
Your visit starts with a consultation at our Newport Beach studio. We’ll discuss your concerns, review relevant medical and aesthetic history, and outline whether Ellacor or another modality (such as Morpheus8, microneedling, or a chemical peel) better matches your goals and timeline.
If you proceed, your provider will explain anesthesia, aftercare, and expected recovery before treatment day.
During
- Appropriate anesthesia is used to support comfort (commonly local anesthesia, as described in manufacturer and clinical materials).
- Manufacturer materials state a typical Ellacor procedure takes about 30 minutes or less, depending on the areas treated.
- You may feel pressure or sensation even with anesthesia; comfort varies by person.
After
Plan for a social downtime period. Manufacturer clinical guidance commonly describes about one week of visible recovery with bruising, crusting, and swelling; recovery can range from a few days to longer depending on settings and how you heal.
You will receive detailed aftercare instructions (gentle cleansing, ointment, sun protection, and activity restrictions until the skin has healed). Follow those instructions closely to support recovery.
Downtime, Recovery & Side Effects
Commonly discussed side effects
Side effects associated with Ellacor may include redness, swelling, bruising, burning, dryness, roughness, tightness or pulling of the skin, crusting, discomfort, tenderness, tingling, bleeding, numbness, skin peeling, or circular marks on the skin.
Less commonly observed risks
Uncommon risks discussed in manufacturer labeling can include itching; darkening or lightening of the skin; hematoma; infection; scarring; skin irregularities; tissue damage (necrosis); uneven appearance between treated areas; and anesthesia-related complications (which may include allergic reaction and, rarely, serious outcomes).
Results and recovery vary. No aesthetic procedure is risk-free. Your provider will review risks, benefits, and alternatives before you decide.
Ellacor vs. Laser, Morpheus8 & Traditional Microneedling
Choosing a treatment is less about “best overall” and more about mechanism + goals + downtime tolerance.
| Treatment | How it works | Heat involved? | Removes skin tissue? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ellacor | Hollow needles extract micro-cores of skin | No intentional heat | Yes |
| Morpheus8 (RF microneedling) | Needles + radiofrequency energy to remodel deeper tissue | Yes (RF) | No |
| Traditional microneedling | Fine needles create micro-channels to stimulate renewal | Typically no | No — tissue is temporarily displaced |
| Laser resurfacing | Light energy ablates or coagulates tissue columns | Yes | Energy-based ablation/coagulation |
Many clients explore Ellacor when they want a non-thermal, tissue-extraction approach for mid- and lower-face wrinkles. Others prefer RF microneedling, microneedling, peels, or HydraFacial® for texture, glow, or maintenance. We’ll help you compare options without pressure.
How Many Treatments?
In the manufacturer’s clinical trial experience, most patients underwent a series of about three procedures spaced approximately 30 days apart. Your plan may differ based on your skin, goals, and how you respond.
We do not promise a specific number of sessions or a guaranteed outcome. Your provider will recommend a thoughtful plan after examining your skin.
Is Ellacor Right For Me?
Ellacor may be worth discussing if you want an FDA-cleared, non-surgical option for moderate to severe mid- and lower-face wrinkles and you can schedule recovery time. It may not be ideal if you need surgical correction, cannot pause certain medications or recent injectables per labeling, or prefer little to no downtime.
Still deciding? That’s exactly what a consultation is for.

Questions? We have answers!
What is Ellacor?
Ellacor® is an FDA-cleared aesthetic device that uses hollow needles to remove micro-cores of skin (micro-coring / fractional tissue extraction) without intentional heat from lasers or radiofrequency. It is indicated for treating moderate and severe wrinkles in the mid and lower face in adults 22 and older with Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV, and is further indicated for fractional skin resurfacing.
How is Ellacor different from Morpheus8 or regular microneedling?
Ellacor physically removes tiny columns of skin. Traditional microneedling creates micro-injuries without removing tissue. Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency heat to remodel tissue. They are different tools for different needs—your provider can help you choose.
How long does an Ellacor treatment take?
Manufacturer materials state a typical procedure takes about 30 minutes or less, depending on the treatment areas. Your total appointment time may be longer to allow for consultation, photography, anesthesia, and aftercare education.
How much downtime should I expect?
Plan for visible recovery. Manufacturer clinical guidance commonly describes about one week of downtime with bruising, crusting, and swelling; some people heal faster or slower. We will review realistic timing for work and social plans during your consultation.
Is Ellacor painful?
Providers use anesthesia to support comfort. In the clinical trial cited by the manufacturer, most patients reported low procedural pain scores with anesthesia in place. Individual comfort still varies.
How many Ellacor sessions will I need?
In the clinical trial experience referenced by the manufacturer, most patients had a series of about three treatments spaced roughly a month apart. Your personalized plan may differ. We will not guarantee a specific number of sessions or results.
Who should not get Ellacor?
People who are pregnant or nursing, have certain skin or medical conditions, recent facial surgery or injectables within labeled timeframes, allergies to materials used in the procedure, or other contraindications listed by the manufacturer should not be treated. Treatment within the bony orbital rim is contraindicated. A consultation is required to screen safely.
Does Ellacor replace a facelift?
No. Ellacor is a non-surgical, device-based option for appropriate wrinkle concerns. It is not the same as surgical skin excision or a facelift, and it is not intended for patients expecting surgical-level results for severe laxity.
