EmSculpt NEO Body Contouring in Newport Beach

Radiofrequency Heat and Muscle Contractions in One Session

EmSculpt NEO at Beyond Restore in Newport Beach is a non-surgical body contouring option for areas where fat and muscle shape haven’t changed the way you’d like with diet and exercise. It is performed by our RNs, and every plan starts with a free consultation.

What Is EmSculpt NEO?

EmSculpt NEO is a device made by BTL. An applicator rests on the treated area and delivers two kinds of energy at once: radiofrequency, which warms the tissue under the skin, and high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy, which makes the muscles underneath contract on their own. Results vary from person to person, and no result can be promised.

  • No needles, incisions or anesthesia
  • You lie down while the applicator works
  • Planned around the areas you want to focus on

EmSculpt NEO is one of several options on our body contouring page, and we’ll tell you honestly if another option suits your goals better.

Areas EmSculpt NEO Can Treat

EmSculpt NEO can be used on the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms and calves.

People often ask about EmSculpt NEO for a soft midsection, or for the shape of the buttocks, arms or thighs. It is not a weight-loss treatment. If overall weight is the bigger goal, see our medical weight loss program.

How an EmSculpt NEO Session Works

We place one or more applicators on the area and secure them with a strap. A session takes about 30 minutes. During the session you’ll feel the muscles tighten and release in a steady rhythm, along with warmth on the skin. Team members check in with you throughout and can adjust the intensity.

What to Know Before Choosing EmSculpt NEO

It Works Alongside Your Habits

EmSculpt NEO doesn’t replace diet and exercise. Results also depend on your weight, activity and lifestyle over time.

A Plan Built Around You

We look at the areas you want to focus on and your health history before suggesting how many sessions make sense.

Back to Your Day

Most people go right back to their day. Muscles can feel tired or sore afterward, much like after a hard workout.

Clear About the Evidence

We share what the published research does and doesn’t show, including its limits, in the Clinical Research section below.

Pairs With Other Services

Some people pair EmSculpt NEO with hormone therapy (BHRT), IV therapy, nutrition coaching, pelvic floor therapy or GLP-1 medical weight loss. See also Morpheus8 Body, which works on the skin rather than the muscle.

What to Expect at Your EmSculpt NEO Visits

Here’s how a plan usually runs, from the first conversation to your last session.

Before

Your first step is a free consultation. We talk about the areas you’d like to focus on, review your health history and suggest a plan. Packages are available, and we’ll go over pricing at your consultation.

During

A session takes about 30 minutes. There are no needles, incisions or anesthesia, and the intensity can be adjusted to your comfort. Wear comfortable clothes; you can relax, read or listen to music.

After

Most people go right back to their day. Muscles can feel tired or sore afterward, much like after a hard workout.

Sessions and Results

A typical series is 4 sessions over 4 weeks, with maintenance sessions as needed. Changes build gradually over the course of a series. Results vary from person to person, and no result can be promised.

Is EmSculpt NEO Right for You?

EmSculpt NEO may be worth discussing if you’re near a weight you can maintain and want to work on the shape of a specific area without surgery. It isn’t a fit during pregnancy or if you have metal implants, a pacemaker or an active hernia. We’ll go over your health history at your consultation.

Clinical Research on EmSculpt NEO

EmSculpt NEO combines radiofrequency heating with high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy. The published studies below looked at changes in fat and muscle after treatment. The studied protocols used a short series of sessions spaced about a week apart. Individual results vary, and we can talk through what the research means for you at your consultation.

Research Reviews

  • Kohan J, et al. High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) Energy With and Without Radiofrequency for Noninvasive Body Contouring: A Systematic Review. Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. 2024. PubMed
This systematic review reported that imaging studies of the abdomen found reductions in fat thickness, increases in muscle thickness and improvement in abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti). It also noted that some studies reported little or no benefit and that study reporting was often incomplete.
  • Swanson E. Body Contouring With Electromagnetic Treatment Plus Radiofrequency: A Review. Annals of Plastic Surgery. 2025. PubMed | Full text (PMC)
This critical review pointed out that the published studies were written by authors with ties to the manufacturer, questioned whether the measured changes exceed the margin of measurement error, and concluded that reliable evidence of a clinically meaningful result is lacking.

Primary Studies

  • Jacob C, Kent D, Ibrahim O. Efficacy and Safety of Simultaneous Application of HIFEM and Synchronized Radiofrequency for Abdominal Fat Reduction and Muscle Toning: A Multicenter Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluation Study. Dermatologic Surgery. 2021. PubMed
Using MRI, this multicenter study reported reduced abdominal fat thickness, increased abdominal muscle thickness and reduced abdominal muscle separation, with changes that the authors reported were maintained at the later follow-up visits.
  • Samuels JB, Katz B, Weiss RA. Radiofrequency Heating and High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Treatment Delivered Simultaneously: The First Sham-Controlled Randomized Trial. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. 2022. PubMed | Full text (PMC)
In this randomized trial with a sham (low-intensity) comparison group, ultrasound measurements in the active group reported reduced abdominal fat and thicker abdominal muscle, while the sham group showed no significant change.
  • Cohen J, Kilmer SL, DiBernardo B, Jacob C, Okoro SA, Cho Y. A Novel Approach to Shaping the Lateral Abdomen: Simultaneous Application of High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) Therapy and Synchronized Radiofrequency at the Flanks: A Multicenter MRI Study. Aesthetic Surgery Journal. 2024. PubMed
This MRI study of the flanks reported thinner fat and thicker oblique muscles after treatment.

Limitations: Many of these studies were small, several were sponsored by or written with ties to the device manufacturer, and results can vary with BMI, diet, exercise and lifestyle. Studies reported average changes, individual results vary, and results are not assured.
