PRP Hair Restoration in Newport Beach: Thinning Hair Options & What to Expect

A wider part, a thinner ponytail or more hair in the brush than you’re used to can be unsettling. Thinning hair is common in men and women, and it’s one of the most personal things people bring up at a consultation. If you’d like to explore options without surgery, PRP hair restoration may be worth a conversation.

At Beyond Restore Wellness & Aesthetics, we offer non-surgical hair restoration in Newport Beach with PRP, exosome products and scalp microneedling. This guide covers how PRP works, who it may suit, what a visit looks like, and what’s realistic to expect.

First, Why Is Your Hair Thinning?

Hair loss has many causes. Cleveland Clinic lists genetics, hormonal changes such as pregnancy, childbirth or menopause, stressful events, thyroid disease, nutritional gaps like low iron or protein, certain medications, scalp infections and tight hairstyles among the common ones. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) notes that effective treatment begins with finding the cause, and that some shedding, such as after having a baby or a major illness, may grow back on its own.

That’s why we start with your history. If something points to a medical cause, we may suggest you see your doctor.

What Is PRP for Hair?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It’s prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelet-rich plasma, which is then placed in the scalp with small injections or with microneedling. Cleveland Clinic and the AAD both describe PRP as an in-office option for thinning hair that needs repeat sessions.

It helps to be clear-eyed about the research. PRP for hair has been studied most in pattern hair loss. Recent systematic reviews describe the results as promising but note that much of the evidence is low quality, and that preparation methods and schedules vary from study to study. PRP use for hair is an evolving area, it doesn’t work for everyone, and no result can be promised.

PRP, Exosomes and Other Options

PRP isn’t the only path. Depending on your goals, your plan may include:

  • PRP, made from your own blood
  • Exosome products, which are prepared in a lab, not from your own blood. Whether they’re used, and how, is decided at your consultation.
  • Scalp microneedling
  • Hair medications and cellular products, which we may discuss depending on your goals

We don’t perform hair transplants. Some people pair scalp sessions with laser hair restoration. Others ask about hormone therapy for women or hormone therapy for men as part of a broader plan. These are separate services, and we’ll only suggest them if they fit.

Who Is a Good Fit?

We see both men and women for hair restoration. It may be worth discussing if you’re an adult with early or gradual thinning, such as a receding hairline, thinning at the temples or crown, or a slow loss of density over time.

It may not help areas where hair has been gone for a long time, and it isn’t right for everyone. Let us know about any medications you take.

Your Visit, Step by Step

Consultation. Every plan begins with a free consultation. We look at your scalp, review your hair history, products and medications, and talk about your goals and realistic expectations.

Treatment. For PRP, a small blood sample is drawn and processed while you relax. Our RNs, NPs and MDs perform the sessions, which usually take about 30 to 60 minutes. Many people describe the feeling as pinpricks or tingling. Numbing cream, Pro-Nox and lidocaine are available.

After. You may have mild redness for the first day, and then most people are back to normal. You’ll get aftercare instructions before you leave.

How Many Sessions Will You Need?

With PRP or scalp microneedling, many people start with 3 sessions spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance as needed. We recommend a maintenance session about every 12 months. With exosomes, plans usually start with 1 session, and we evaluate from there. Changes in hair, if any, show up gradually over several months, and results vary from person to person.

Packages are available, and we’ll go over options and cost at your consultation. Financing is available through PatientFi, CareCredit and Cherry.
