Spider veins have a way of showing up quietly. One day there’s a small red or purple web behind your knee or along your thigh, and soon you’re thinking about it every time you pull on shorts. Spider and varicose veins are very common, and for many people the question isn’t whether they’re dangerous but whether anything simple can be done about how they look.
At Beyond Restore Wellness & Aesthetics, we offer sclerotherapy in Newport Beach for spider veins and small varicose veins on the legs. This guide covers what the treatment is, who tends to be a good fit, what a visit looks like, and the aftercare that matters most.
What Are Spider Veins?
Spider veins are small, usually red, blue or purple veins that sit just under the skin. They often look like tree branches or spider webs, and unlike varicose veins, they don’t make the skin bulge. Varicose veins are larger, swollen, twisted veins. Both happen when tiny valves inside the veins don’t work as well as they should, so blood pools instead of moving smoothly back toward the heart.
Age, family history and pregnancy can all play a part. Some people have no symptoms at all, while others notice legs that feel tired, heavy or achy.
What Is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a long-established, in-office treatment. A solution called a sclerosant is injected into small veins near the surface of the skin with a fine needle. Over the following weeks, treated veins usually become less visible.
At Beyond Restore, our registered nurses perform sclerotherapy using Asclera (polidocanol) in 1% and 0.5% strengths. It’s commonly used for:
- Spider veins on the legs
- Small reticular (blue-green) veins
- Small varicose veins
Larger varicose veins, or veins causing pain or swelling, may need a vein specialist instead. If that’s the case, we’ll tell you at your consultation. If your concern is redness or sun spots on the face, ask us about IPL.
Who Is a Good Fit?
Sclerotherapy may be worth discussing if you’ve noticed spider veins or small varicose veins on your legs and want an in-office option without surgery. It isn’t right for everyone. It’s not a good fit during pregnancy, or if you have a clotting disorder or a history of blood clots.
Please tell us about every medication and supplement you take. Blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen and some supplements can matter. Only stop a prescribed medication if your doctor agrees.
Your Visit, Step by Step

Consultation. Every plan starts with a free consultation. We look at the veins you’d like treated, review your health history and medications, and talk about realistic expectations.
Treatment. You’ll lie comfortably while a small amount of solution is injected into each targeted vein. Many people describe each injection as a quick pinch, and some feel brief cramping or tingling. Topical numbing, Pro-Nox and lidocaine are available. A session takes about 1 hour, with no general anesthesia. Wear loose clothing.
Plan. Most people need 1 session, with touch-ups as needed.
Aftercare: The Part That Matters Most
What you do in the first two weeks helps your legs heal well. Here’s what we ask:
- Wear compression stockings for 1 week.
- Light activity like walking is fine right away.
- Avoid hard workouts, hot baths and sun for 2 weeks.
Some bruising or itching is possible for about a week. You’ll get written aftercare instructions before you leave.
Possible Side Effects and When to Call
Like any medical treatment, sclerotherapy can have side effects. Some bruising or itching is possible for about a week, and some people feel brief cramping or tingling during the injections. Your aftercare instructions will cover what to watch for.

Results

Treated veins usually fade over several weeks; larger ones can take a few months. New veins can form over time, so some people come back for touch-ups. Results vary from person to person, and no result can be promised.
